An owl was recently rescued from “certain demise” after it became trapped in a fishing line dangling from a tree in New Hampshire, officials said.

Milton Fire-Rescue said Sunday that firefighters were alerted to the owl’s plight near the old bridge at the end of Town House Road in Milton, near the border with Maine. Fire Chief Nick Marique arrived on scene and assessed the situation before calling the on-duty crew for assistance.

Photos shared by the fire department show the bird dangling from fishing line caught in a tree alongside Town House Pond.

“Great job by firefighters, Lloyd, Walden, and Chappell who successfully managed to rescue the owl from certain demise,” the fire department said.

The owl “clearly had a wing injury” but otherwise appeared to be in good health. New Hampshire Fish and Game Department personnel retrieved the owl from the fire station and transported it to a rehabilitation center.

“Please be courteous and respectful with discarded fishing line as it clearly can have a negative impacted on wildlife,” the fire department said. “Shout out to the pedestrians who noticed the owl and sought help.”
