A driver recently caused a multi-vehicle pileup after missing their exit and coming to a stop on an Ohio highway, and state officials are warning other motorists to be more careful.

The Ohio Department of Transportation shared a video timestamped at around 5:25 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, that shows a red minivan traveling in the center lane of a three-lane stretch of southbound Interstate 71 in Columbus come to a complete stop. The driver, who apparently missed their exit, activates a turn signal and waits for an opening to merge into the right lane and over to the exit.

Multiple vehicles drive around the minivan, and two come to a stop behind it. A third vehicle crashes into the stopped vehicles, Moments after the pileup occurs, the minivan flees the scene, taking the exit to I-670.

“When you are driving along a major interstate and you miss your exit do you: A) keep driving and get off at the next one or B) come to a complete stop, cause a multi-car rear-end crash and then drive away,” the Ohio Department of Transportation wrote alongside the video. “HINT: The answer is NEVER B. Do not be this driver.”

According to Fox 8, the the other vehicles involved in the crash were significantly damaged, but no serious injuries were reported.
