The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is asking for the public’s help identifying a body discovered by a fisherman in Lake Michigan over the weekend.

Indiana DNR said Monday that the body was found by a fisherman at around 8 a.m. Saturday about two miles offshore Central Beach, near Beverly Shores. Indiana Conservation Officers recovered the body with assistance from the Lake County Sheriffs Office Marine Unit.

“Due to the condition of the body, the person appears to have been missing for an extended period of time,” the Indiana DNR said in a news release. Officials did not indicate whether the body belonged to a man or woman, or the approximate age of the deceased.

The deceased person was wearing red and black plaid pajama pants and black socks, along with a “unique ring” on their right index finger. Officials released a photo of the ring in the hope that someone may recognize it.

Conservation officers and the Porter County Coroner’s Office are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact Indiana Conservation Officers Dispatch at 812-837-9536.
