A local official in New York state is facing charges for allegedly shooting a Door Dash driver who became lost in his neighborhood on Friday night, police said.

New York State Police said troopers were notified of a gunshot victim at Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown at around 9:50 p.m. on May 2. Troopers learned the victim was working as a Door Dash delivery driver trying to deliver food to a residence in the Valerie Drive neighborhood of Chester when he became lost.

The driver approached “several homes” to ask for directions before arriving at the residence of Town of Chester Highway Superintendent John Reilly III.

Reilly allegedly told the victim to leave his property, then fired multiple shots at the victim as he attempted to leave in his vehicle. The victim was struck once in the back, causing serious injuries, police said.

Reilly, who is also a federally licensed firearms dealer, was arrested May 3 on charges of first-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a firearm. After arraignment, he was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash, $500,000 bond, or $750,000 partially secured bond.
