New search data from top mortgage lender Pennymac reveals that homebuyers are frequently turning to online platforms like Google and YouTube to answer surprisingly basic mortgage questions.

The findings highlight a significant gap in consumer knowledge, as tens of thousands of homebuyers each month search for answers to fundamental questions.

Among the top-searched questions are “What is refinancing a home?” with 74,000 monthly searches on YouTube, “How much mortgage can I afford?” with 60,500 monthly searches, and “What is a VA loan?” also with 74,000 monthly searches. These numbers suggest that despite the wealth of available mortgage information, many potential homebuyers may not be getting the financial education they need to make informed decisions.

With spring homebuying season in full swing, the lack of basic mortgage knowledge could impact how prepared buyers are for one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. Recognizing this issue, Pennymac has launched a new educational video series titled Bring It Home.

The Bring It Home series aims to answer top homebuying questions, covering topics from mortgage basics to refinancing, budgeting, and home equity.

As the real estate market continues to evolve, ensuring that homebuyers have access to essential information is more important than ever.
