Even though she’s super-busy, “American Idol” kutie KATHARINE MCPHEE – who’s a smash in NBC’s hot new STEVEN SPIELBERG series “Smash” – is such a rabid clean freak that she dropped everything and literally got down on hands and knees to help out a pal who’d just rented a grungy Noo Yawk apartment.
Said an insider: “Katharine dropped by to visit her friend, a struggling actress, and was horrified to see that her new place was a filthy mess – partly because her pal’s kind of a slob.
"There were dirty clothes thrown everywhere, dishes piled up in the sink, and the floor looked like it hadn’t been mopped since the Stone Age.
"So Katharine got down on her hands and knees – and forced her friend to do the same. They scrubbed and cleaned floor-to-ceiling for nearly five hours and in the end, the place was gleaming.”
