A hiker was rescued after falling approximately 30 feet in a rock climbing area in Los Angeles on Sunday, officials said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said ground and sir crews responded to a report that a man had fallen some 30 feet while hiking in a “rugged and remote” section of Stoney Point Park, which is a popular rock climbing area east of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, south of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway.

An LAFD helicopter crew lowered a flight paramedic to the injured hiker, to provide first aid and prepare the patient to be hoisted. Photos shared by the fire department show the dramatic aerial rescue alongside the park’s rocky outcroppings.

The fire department did not specify the nature of the hiker’s injuries, but they were serious enough that he received in-flight care during a direct helicopter transport to a regional trauma center, officials said.
