Haley Joel Osment has issued an apology after video of his arrest at California’s Mammoth Mountain Ski Area for alleged public intoxication earlier this month showed him use an antisemitic slur against a police officer.

Osment, 37, was arrested on April 8 after the Mammoth Lakes Police Department responded to a report of a disorderly bar patron. Body-worn camera video showed Osment attempting to board a ski lift while apparently intoxicated. The “Sixth Sense” star claimed he was being “attacked” as he was taken into custody.

When asked for his name, Osment said, “I’m an American.” During his arrest, police found a folded $20 bill that allegedly had a controlled substance inside that was later identified as cocaine.

The Mono County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement Thursday that Osment was charged with two misdemeanors: disorderly conduct for public intoxication and possession of cocaine.

“Im absolutely horrified by my behavior. Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner,” Osment said in a statement issued to multiple news outlets. “The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place.” Osment lost his home in Altadena in the Eaton Fire in January.

“But thats no excuse for using this disgusting word,” Osment said. “From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts. What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage — Ive let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I dont ask for anyones forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.”

Osment is scheduled to be arraigned in the Mammoth Lakes branch of the Mono County Superior Court on July 7.
