There is mourning in England today, as citizens throughout the country are saddened by the death of Britain’s Queen Mother Elizabeth. She was 101.
Buckingham Palace released the following statement over the weekend: “The Queen, with the greatest sadness, has asked for the following announcement to be made immediately. Her beloved mother, Queen Elizabeth, died peacefully in her sleep this afternoon, at Royal Lodge, Windsor.”
According to reports, The Queen Mum had been ill with a chest infection since December, and her condition worsened.
Prince Charles, on a skiing vacation with sons Princes William and Harry, was reported to be “completely devastated,” when he returned to Britain to prepare for the funeral.
The Queen Mum’s passing comes less than two months after the death of her daughter, Princess Margaret.
