A Georgia teenager is facing charges for allegedly making a hoax school shooting threat after a boy failed to go to prom with her as planned, authorities said.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said a 911 caller reported a Snapchat post threatening Johnson High School at around 3 p.m. Wednesday. The threat “indicated there would be a shooting” at the school, the sheriff’s office said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and internal investigators with Snapchat assisted, and by 5:30 p.m. the person who created the post was identified as a 16-year-old girl who attends Banks County High School. Investigators also determined the threat was “not viable.”

The sheriff’s office said the girl admitted posting the threat “in retaliation after a male student at JHS apparently failed to accompany her to prom as planned.”

The girl is being charged as a juvenile with a single count of making a terroristic threat.
