Police officers recently rescued a man after he was thrown from a personal watercraft due to a “strong current” off the coast of Florida, and was unable to swim back.

The Palm Bay Police Department said Sergeant Galioto and Officer Dalton responded to a 911 call reporting a man had been thrown from his personal watercraft on May 8.

“Due to the strong current, he was unable to swim back to his Jet Ski or the shore safely,” police said, using a common brand name for personal watercraft.

Police shared a video that shows the Marine Unit officers taking a boat out to locate the man, after being informed other agencies including the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) didn’t have any boats in the water nearby.

The boat races out to the last location where an observer thought they saw “arms waving” before they disappeared, and found the man in the water. Officers pulled the man into the boat before returning him to his personal watercraft, which appears to be a Sea Doo.

“Thank you guys,” the man says, back aboard his Sea Doo. “I never thought I’d be on a Jet Ski falling off calling 911 for help.”

“Call us when you need us man, we’ll be here,” an officer says.
