A Florida man is facing charges for allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend Tuesday after placing a tracker on her vehicle, authorities said.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a possible kidnapping at a residence on the 1900 block of 33rd Street Southeast in Ruskin at around 3:22 a.m. Tuesday. Deputies investigating the scene learned the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Julian Jaramillo, had kidnapped his ex-girlfriend.

Jaramillo allegedly placed a tracking device placed in his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle and tracked her to the residence. When she emerged from the residence, he allegedly stole the victim’s keys and shoved her into the trunk of her own car.

Surveillance video released by the sheriff’s office shows the suspect pushing the victim into the trunk of the vehicle before driving away.

Jaramillo then allegedly drove to his residence in Palmetto, where he held the victim against her will. With assistance from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Jaramillo was stopped while leaving the neighborhood with the victim.

Jaramillo was taken into custody on charges of carjacking, kidnapping, battery domestic violence, and installation of a tracking device. He was being held at the Manatee County Jail pending extradition to Hillsborough County.

The sheriff’s office said the victim sustained minor injuries.

“Domestic violence cases involving kidnapping are some of the most dangerous situations we encounter,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We will do everything we can, including working with other agencies, to protect victims of domestic violence and hold abusers like this one accountable.”
