A sheriff’s deputy armed with a net recently rescued residents from a baby alligator that went for a swim in a community pool.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said prospective swimmers at a community pool in Ocean Isle Beach called Monday to report an alligator had beaten them to it.

“Luckily, Deputy Wissler was on scene to safely rescue our uninvited guest and relocate it to a more appropriate swimming spot (a nearby waterway, not the deep end),” the sheriff’s office wrote on social media alongside a photo of Wissler holding the small reptile in a net.

“You never know what kind of calls our deputies will get — from catching criminals to catching reptiles in floaties,” the sheriff’s office said.
