Tails wagging in anticipation, two healthy young dogs think they’re going to be let off the leash for a run around a field on Dave Smith’s farm.
Instead, he leads them into a squalid shed – and shoots each of them in the head. This scene has played out thousands of times, because the dogs are greyhounds – too old to race and unwanted by their heartless trainers.
That’s where Dave Smith steps in. The man who some call “The Most Evil Man in the World” has slaughtered more than 10,000 of these magnificent animals and unceremoniously dumped their carcasses in shallow graves on his farm.
Instead of a brutal early death, the perfectly healthy young dogs – some as young as 3 when they were killed – could have looked forward to a life span of 15 years or more.
Smith, who receives $15 for every dog he slaughters at his farm in England, claims he’s doing society a “favor,” because if he didn’t put the dogs down they’d be running loose on the streets.
He told an undercover investigator he has buried dogs over and over in the same field, using a mechanical digger to gouge out shallow trenches, tipping the lifeless carcasses into the makeshift graves from a wheelbarrow.
Now exposure of the vile trade in England has outraged dog owners – and what’s worse, the U.S. could have its own secret killing fields.
