MICHAEL DOUGLAS’ big heart is sabotaging his chances of salvaging his broken marriage to CATHERINE ZETA-JONES, sources tell The ENQUIRER in a World Exclusive.
The “Last Vegas” star swooped in to help his troubled ex-girlfriend, pretty “20/20” co-anchor Elizabeth Vargas, as she struggled with an addiction to booze – but Michael’s estranged wife was said to be none too happy about it.
“Michael’s bighearted goodwill gesture toward Elizabeth could backfire,” warned a close source.
“When Catherine heard about it, she instantly became jealous and went ballistic.”
Michael and Catherine confirmed in August what The ENQUIRER had been reporting for months – that the superstar couple had split after 12 years of marriage and two kids, son Dylan, 13, and daughter Carys, 10.
Sources say they’ve been trying to reconcile for the sake of their children – but as Vargas battled her demons, Michael supported her, convincing the 51-year-old brunette to seek professional help.
