COURTNEY LOVE‘s window-smashing rampage and apparent drug overdose was her way of lashing out at her ex-boyfriend, record executive Jim Barber, The ENQUIRER has learned.
“There were three broken windows and four torn-up window screens on the first-floor side of Jim’s house in Los Angeles,” an eyewitness told The ENQUIRER. “The panes were shattered and the screens were shredded like a tiger had clawed through them. The next day, some of the windows were temporarily fixed with cardboard and tape. What a mess!”
L.A. police charged Love, 38, with misdemeanor “being under the influence of a controlled substance,” said L.A. police officer Renee Montoya. She was released on $2,500 bail.
But about an hour after she made bail, Love, the widow of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain, called 911 complaining of a “possible overdose on medication” and was rushed by ambulance to Century City Hospital for treatment of a “medical emergency,” police say.
Courtney’s wild night at her ex-lover’s house began around 2:38 a.m. when police received two separate calls of a “burglary suspect lingering on South Mansfield Ave.,” said Officer Montoya. When cops arrived they said they found Love just standing in the middle of the street. She admitted she broke the windows in the house, according to the cops.
Police say the man at Barber’s house who answered the door admitted knowing Love — but declined to press charges.
The actress/rocker seemed to be high on something so cops tested her and booked her for “being under the influence of a controlled substance,” a misdemeanor, Montoya said.
She was set free after posting bail around 5:30 a.m. But shortly after 6 a.m., police say Love called paramedics to her rented home on North Alpine Drive in Beverly Hills. Sources say she was rushed to the hospital for treatment of an apparent drug overdose and released later that day.
Early this year, Love had reportedly ended her tempestuous four-year romance with
Barber, 40. “I need a new boyfriend,” she told a friend at the time. “How do I let everyone know I’m done with Barber?”
Based on the window-smashing incident, however, she and Barber may still have some unfinished business.
