Underpaid Sean Connery Hated Playing James Bond

Sean Penn

Sean Connery hates James Bond! That’s the secret the star, 85, will take to the grave with him — and pals fear his demise could come within just months.

Sean was spotted looking gaunt, frail and ashen-faced as he watched a tennis match at the U.S. Open in New York on Sept. 13. It was a rare public appearance for the reclusive star, who has battled a host of medical troubles over the past two decades.

Sean has also battled the producers of the seven James Bond films he starred in from 1962 to 1983. He remains rankled over the fact that he received a total of just $3 million to play the iconic secret agent — while the film franchise has gone on to become worth $1.6 billion in the U.S. alone!

Though he’s revered by fans as the best of the James Bonds for his work in such films as “Dr. No” and “Goldfinger,” in 2012 Sean refused to take part in promoting the release of a 23-disc collection of all the Bond films up to that point, while his successors in the role — among them Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan — willingly collaborated.

“He felt he was never well financially rewarded for his early work and, after his departure, his work was used to generate tens of millions of dollars,” a source said of Sean.

Though happy about the fame and success the films provided, he remains bitter about how he was treated. “I have always hated that damned James Bond,” Sean said. “I’d like to kill him.”
