STERN PAL LANGE SUICIDE BID

description

Howard Stern cohort comedian Artie Lange was hospitalized after he stabbed himself nine time in a desperate suicide bid.

The rotund comic who had been a Howard Stern Show regular since the departure of Jackie "The Joke Man" Martling  had been seriously depressed.

Lange’s mother entered Artie’s Hoboken apartment Saturday and immediately called 911  when she saw her son covered in blood, a law-enforcement source said.

Lange had sustained six "hesitation wounds" and three deep plunges, Lt. Det. Mark Competello said.

Hospital doctors worked valiantly around the clock to save the comedian despite a massive loss of blood.

On-air, Howard Stern did not comment on the reason for his costar’s hospitalization, saying only: "We all have our demons."

In the past, Lange had candidly discussed his ongoing depression, a prior suicide attempt, his melancholy over the death of his father and a struggle with heroin addiction which was also chronicled in his book Too Fat To Sign.
