Serena Williams on Snapchat today confirmed speculation that she’s pregnant, and further revealing with a “20 weeks” caption that the tennis titan was carrying the little bundle in her belly during the Australian Open!
As if topping her older sister Venus in the event’s final match on January 28 wasn’t enough, she’s now able to brag “I beat you — pregnant!”
The 35-year-old tennis diva, who showed off her barely noticeable baby bump in a bright yellow one-piece swimsuit, announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in December, 2016, after 15 months of dating. The couple has yet to set a wedding date.
“We are not sure what is happening with who doing what yet,” sister Venus told People recently, but acknowledged that she’d figure in whatever plans the soon-to-be parents cook up.
Serena, who at 35 is still the world’s top-ranked women’s tennis player, is expected to take her leave from competition while carrying her first child, ceding the No. 1 position to challengers.
Serena joins beach volleyball champ Kerri Walsh-Jennings on the very short list of athletes to win major titles while carrying a child. Kerri captured gold at the London Olympic while five-weeks pregnant with her daughter Scout.
