With wife Kate Middleton carrying a royal princess, Prince William has been haunted by memories of the price his beloved mother paid for fame, sources told The National ENQUIRER.

William was just 15 when 36-year-old Diana died in a car accident in Paris with her lover, Dodi Fayed, in 1997.

Now the royal couple plan to christen their daughter “Elizabeth Diana,” after William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and his mom, friends have told Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton.

Andrew, author of “Diana: Her True Story,” told The ENQUIRER: “The odds are that a girl born to handsome parents like William and Kate will grow up to be a stunning young beauty.

“After what happened to Diana, it’s a nightmare scenario that must haunt William. Unfortunately, he can’t wave a magic wand and expect his little girl to get total privacy.

“She’s a royal – and fame goes with the job.”

As The ENQUIRER has reported, 32-year-old Kate learned she was expecting a girl during an ultrasound with her physician, Dr. Alan Farthing.

William, 32, and Kate – already parents to Prince George – are “ecstatic,” said a palace insider.

“A baby girl is a dream come true, but it’s brought back all the terrible memories of how his mom suffered in the spotlight,” said the source.

“Diana was basically abandoned by the royal family and then suffered the indignity of the world knowing her husband cheated on her.

“Her every move was plotted by palace minders until she broke away.

“William has vowed to do all in his power to protect his daughter from the same treatment.”

Andrew said: “Diana hated fame. In the end, it tragically killed her. Things got so desperate that she spent hours hiding out like a little mouse in Kensington Palace.

“I cannot see any way that William will be able to shield (his new daughter) completely and keep her out of the limelight.”
