QUEEN LATIFAH may be getting ready to come out of the closet  – thanks to the inspiration of “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts, who recently acknowledged she’s gay.

A source says that the 43-year-old talk-show host is telling pals that Robin’s lesbian admission has Latifah contemplating following in her footsteps in 2014. “Latifah never wanted to be labeled a gay spokesperson or role model – that’s why she’s never come out,” a close source told The ENQUIRER.

“Her sexuality has been one of Hollywood’s biggest non-secrets for years, but since Robin came out she’s been thinking long and hard about doing the same.

“Latifah always wanted to keep her private life out of the spotlight, even though she’s never hidden her girlfriends from her close friends and family.

“She’s performed at gay pride festivals, so in her eyes she doesn’t need to make a statement. But deep down inside she knows that going public, like her friend Robin did, will go a long way toward furthering public acceptance of lesbians and gays.”

On Dec. 29, Roberts, 53, came out as a lesbian on her Facebook page and acknowledged her girlfriend, Amber Laign.

As The ENQUIRER exclusively reported in October 2011, Latifah ended an eight-year relationship with her longtime girlfriend, personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins. But she quickly rebounded and began dating dancer/choreographer Eboni Nichols.

In 2012, Latifah made headlines when she performed at the 29th Annual Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival, where she proclaimed: “I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time” before stating she was proud to be among “her people.” She later denied that her performance and statements indicated she would be coming out as a lesbian.

Confided the source: “Latifah respects and admires Robin’s decision. Although she’s still on the fence, she’s finally thinking about coming out – and that’s more than she’s ever done before.”
