Someone stuck him with the pointy end. Pete Doherty of The Libertines revealed on Monday, April 29, that he had been hospitalized after a stab wound from a hedgehog became infected.

“A picture of me in a hospital bed with an infected hedgehog spike wound,” the 40-year-old musician tweeted with a picture from the Manchester Royal Infirmary. “Thank you to the wonderful women who work within the NHS . What absolute angels and a million times they deserve our respect.”

He also shared a photo of his left hand wrapped in bandages, and went on to explain that it was pretty much his dogs’ fault, and that the injury resulted from him trying to play the hero. “Zeus and Narco had the cute wee verminous Shnuffle shuffle Pig of the Hedge in their gobs and I wrapped my hand in a tshirt and freed the wee bugger and got a tiny cut… That was Wednesday night/Thursday morning..,” he tweeted. “Cue three days in a van with a carefree attitude to potentially infected forefingers.”

“Infectious new songs on the album though,” he joked.

Doherty, who first hinted at his medical emergency with a photo of an “assessment booklet for surgical patients” on Monday, had been scheduled to appear on BBC Radio 5 DJ Nihal Arthanayake’s show on Monday afternoon to promote his new Peter Doherty & the Puta Madres’ new album, but ended up not being able to do the interview.

“He’s just cancelled for reasons involving a hedgehog spine and his dog,” Arthanayake tweeted.

According to Clash, the presenter also announced the cancellation on the show. “Pete Doherty is now in hospital having the infected hedgehog spin removed from his finger,” the DJ told listeners. “We wish Pete well because whatever has happened is serious enough that he has not been able to make it.”

On Tuesday, Doherty, who was once engaged to model Kate Moss, joked about the situation.

He tweeted an image of a card featuring a hedgehog that read “I am so sorry you’re feeling prickly” and captioned it, “I felt a bit of a prick.”
