Beloved “Mister Ed” star Alan Young struggled through his sad last days, The National ENQUIRER has learned.

The 96-year-old actor — best known for his role as Wilbur Post, owner of the famous talking horse in the ’60s TV series — was in rapidly declining health before passing away at the Motion Picture and Television Home retirement community on Thursday, May 20, 2016.

The beloved actor died with his children by his side — even as one relative claimed they were already battling over Alan’s estate!

“It may be only a matter of weeks before Alan is no longer with us,” his daughter, Wendy Dale Young, had revealed last March.

Alan, who also voiced the Disney cartoon character Scrooge McDuck, has suffered several mini strokes over the past several years.

In another heartbreak, his second wife, Virginia, battled dementia for years and died in 2011.

Alan’s health issues have affected his judgment, according to Wendy — and after she spent years caring for both parents, her three siblings had stepped in after a long estrangement.

They’ve turned Alan against her, according to Wendy, and she’s now battling them over his day-to-day care and estate.

“It’s a mess!” Wendy had warned.

“When Alan dies, it’s going to be a battle royale!”
