Interesting. Fans have spent the entire first week of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s son Archie‘s life trying to decode the meaning of his name, but according to friends of the couple, the royal pair named their little boy after … Meg’s dad cat.

According to The Sun, Doria Ragland once adopted a cat named Archie that was a very “important” member of their family.

“Meghan loved playing with him and she was always talking about him to her friends. It’s no surprise she named her new baby Archie. She loved that cat,” the pals said.

The pet allegedly died while Meg was in college.

Even stranger, the friends think she may have named the prince after her estranged father, Thomas Markle, who bailed on her wedding and has been publicly embarrassing her ever since.

Apparently, the two used to collect a comic book called Archie, which is about a red-headed character named Archie Andrews. “She would spend her weekends going to vintage stores to buy the comics,” friends claimed.

Some even think the moniker was a nod to one of Princess Diana’s ancestors, Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll.

The royal couple welcomed Archie Harrison (Harrison means “son of Harry”) on May 6 and debuted him on May 8.
