The character of Derek Shepherd died in a car crash after show creator Shonda Rhimes got fed up with Patrick Dempsey’s midlife crisis.
An insider said: “Shonda had no other choice but to fire Patrick! He had been showing up late, and was holding up production because he couldn’t remember his lines!”
After months of the 49-year-old star being distracted by his divorce and wanting to race cars, Shonda finally got homicidal – and so Patrick joined dearly departed diva Katherine Heigl in the “Grey’s” graveyard!
