It’s double joy for new mom Mariska Hargitay. The 42-year-old Law & Order: SVU star just gave birth to one of the largest Hollywood babies ever — a whopping 10-pound, 9-ounce boy delivered by Caesarean section. And she was thrilled that her ailing dad made it to the birth.
Mariska and her husband of nearly two years, actor Peter Hermann, were elated that her father, former Mr. Universe Mickey Hargitay, was on hand for the June 28 debut of their son August in Los Angeles.
It was a feat of strength just for the 80-year-old bodybuilder to be there.
As The ENQUIRER previously revealed, Mickey suffered two successive heart attacks last year while also grappling with deadly bone cancer. Devoted Mariska rushed to his bedside in a Florida hospital where doctors performed an emergency angioplasty.
In 1967 Mariska’s mother, blonde bombshell Jayne Mansfield, was killed in a car accident. Miraculously, Mariska and her two brothers — asleep in the back seat — were not seriously injured.
When her dad made it to August’s birth, a grateful Mariska cried tears of joy, divulged an insider.
“Mickey has struggled greatly with health problems, and had checked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center that same day, suffering from dehydration.
“Although he was feeble and weak, Mickey was beaming with pride when his daughter gave birth to such a prizewinning-sized son.”
