T WENTY years after their romance ended, actress Daryl Hannah still carries a torch for the late John F. Kennedy Jr., sources say.
“Daryl says John was her soulmate, and she believes that she was his soulmate too,” said an insider.
Daryl has never married, although she was recently spotted with musician Neil Young.
She first met John in the early 1980s while both were vacationing in St. Martin. They met again at the wedding of his aunt, Lee Radziwill, to director Herbert Ross in 1988Although they were dating other people at the time, they quietly began spending time together, and they moved in together in 1993.
“ They both loved outdoor sports like biking, skating and hiking. They also shared an interest in liberal politics. They both came from wealthy families and loved to act. They were a perfect match,” said the source.The actress – who’s dated musician Jackson Browne, actor Val Kilmer and magician David Blaine – recently revealed she was diagnosed with a form of autism as a child.
“Daryl felt that most of her former boyfriends didn’t understand that she was often in a world of her own due to her autism diagnosis,” said a close insider. “But John understood autism and accepted her quirkiness. He also realized that she needed to spend time alone and was shy around other people. His acceptance made her feel comfortable in her own skin.”
The blonde beauty was devastated when John chose to end their romance in 1994, said the source.
“Daryl gave John an ultimatum, marry her or else…and John decided to leave,” said the source.
“When John married Carolyn Bessette, Daryl was shocked and heartbroken. But she felt sure that eventually she and John would get back together.”When John perished in a tragic plane crash in July 1999, Daryl was grief-stricken.
“Daryl cried for months at the thought of what might have been,” said the source.
“She’s dated, but she still thinks about John all the time, and she’s accepted that she’ll never find another man like him.”
