THE honeymoon’s over for newlyweds JODIE FOSTER and ALEXANDRA HEDISON – and Mel Gibson’s getting the blame!
Sources tell The ENQUIRER that Oscar-winner Jodie’s new bride doesn’t want the “Braveheart” actor to be part of their new life together – even though Mel and Jodie have been close pals for years. And the battle over Mel is causing a huge rift in the couple’s union.
“Alexandra met Mel at a function in Malibu years ago, and she didn’t like the way he was preaching with a holier-than-thou attitude,” a friend explained.
Alexandra is also said to be repulsed by the bigoted remarks he spewed during a 2006 DUI arrest and, later, in 2010, by the domestic abuse allegations leveled against him by his former girlfriend and baby mama, Oksana Grigorieva.
“Jodie’s friendship with Mel is a big bone of contention between her and Alexandra,” the source continued. “She’s made it clear, now that they’re a married couple, she doesn’t want to socialize with him.”
Jodie, 51, and photographer/ actress Alexandra, 44, tied the knot over Easter weekend after less than a year of dating.
A friend noted that although the two seem “madly in love, they had such a whirlwind romance I don’t think they’ve fully explored the ins and outs of their relationship.”
And that includes Jodie’s cozy friendship with 58-year-old Mel, who has been one of her closest pals since they shot “Maverick” together in 1994. Jodie has stuck by Mel through his tough times, saying last year: “When you love somebody, you don’t just walk away from them when they’re struggling.”
And despite her new wife’s objections, Jodie seems to be standing her ground when it comes to the “Mad Max” star.
“Jodie wants the three of them to go out together so Alexandra can get to know him,” the friend added. “Alexandra said she will if she’s forced to, but she warned Jodie she may just tell Mel what she REALLY thinks of him!”
