At 90, Hollywood icon Doris Day rarely leaves home, but she’s made a new friend – Sir Paul McCartney!
The famed “Que Sera, Sera” singer now lives alone in Carmel, Calif., surrounded by only the animals she’s rescued, a few staff members and a live-in nurse.
While the “Pillow Talk” star seldom receives visitors, her door is always open to meet the Beatle, sources told The National ENQUIRER.
“Paul and Doris are an unlikely pair, but she adores him and he her,” said the source.
“A decade ago Paul phoned, and Doris almost didn’t take the call because she didn’t think it was him. But a few weeks later, he showed up at her door with his then-wife Heather Mills.”
The two have been great friends ever since, divulged the source.
“Paul invited Doris to come see him in the UK, saying he’d send a private plane to fetch her. But Doris has always had a fear of flying so she turned him down,” said the source.
“Paul never pays attention to whether it’s day or night, sometimes waking Doris in the middle of the night just to say he was thinking of her. She actually gets a kick out of that.
“I know Paul’s friendship has really helped ease Doris’ loneliness, and she looks forward to his calls.
“If something happened to either one of them, I know they would miss each other terribly.”
