Former NBA star Rick Fox is calling a personal foul on Dancing with the Stars fans who voted him off the show – even though he won high praise from the judges.
Fox, 41, and professional dancing partner Cheryl Burke failed to impress enough viewers and were eliminated in week seven of the competition – stunning the judges, the audience and the remaining dancers.
"Rick was absolutely blindsided," said a source close to the former Los Angeles Laker forward-turned-actor.
"He shook his head afterward, muttering, ‘I can’t believe it, I can’t believe it. I did my best, there was nothing more I could do.’
"Just like that, they were out of the competition – even though everyone knew that Bristol Palin and Kyle Massey both deserved to go before Rick did.
"Rick was very upset!"
And Burke said: "This is the most shocking elimination I’ve ever been through out of all 10 seasons.
"We may have gotten lost in the pack. People may have thought we were going to be safe and didn’t vote."
Fox’s girlfriend, Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku, 29, is seething over the Nov. 2 loss but admires what Rick accomplished, revealed the source.
She posted on her Twitter page that she loves Rick and is proud of him.
"The good news for Rick and Eliza is that they now have time to finally plan their wedding!"
