DIVORCE PUSHES BROLIN TO BRINK

JOSH BROLIN emerged from a three-week rehab stint vowing he’s kicked booze for good, but pals fear the “W.” star could relapse in 2014.

Between dealing with his divorce from actress Diane Lane and a simmering feud with stepmother Barbra Streisand, the 45-year-old actor is an accident waiting to happen, sources say.

“People close to Josh, including his father (James Brolin), have told him that he needs longer-term, in-house care,” said a friend.

“But Josh insists he just needed a little tune-up, and you fear that one night of misadventure will put him right back where he was.”

The Oscar-nominated “Milk” actor entered a northern California facility on Nov. 15, two weeks after a disastrous night of boozing saw him verbally attack a cab driver and scuffle with a bouncer at a Santa Monica pub. Meanwhile, Brolin’s nine-year marriage to Lane officially ended on Nov. 27 while he was in rehab, and he’s resentful that Streisand counseled Lane through the divorce, says another source.

“Josh desperately wanted a second chance with Diane and hoped Barbra would help talk her out of the divorce,” said the source. “But Barbra told Diane it was best to move on.”

Despite that, Streisand has apparently reached out to her stepson to mend fences.

“Barbra and James went through the holidays supporting Josh, trying to keep him upbeat and even offering to let him spend time at their place if he didn’t want to be alone,” the source said. “But Josh knows Barbra and his dad have been having problems and thinks she should take care of her own marriage and butt out of his affairs.”
