DARYL HANNAH'S new romance with legendary rocker NEIL YOUNG is haunted by the brutal abuse she suffered from former boyfriend JACKSON BROWNE!

“It happened 23 years ago, but Daryl still bears the emotional scars,” a close friend told The National ENQUIRER. “She’s never been able to let it go completely!”

Neil is the first musician Daryl has dated since her twisted relationship with Jackson, who topped the charts with hits like “Running on Empty.”

As The ENQUIRER revealed at the time, her live-in lover had battered and bruised the “Splash” siren at their Santa Monica, Calif., home on Sept. 23, 1992, as Daryl began packing for New York.

“She went to a doctor for treatment, and was forced to cancel an appearance at an awards ceremony,” an insider confirmed.

Daryl’s mom, Sue Wexler, told The ENQUIRER: “I’m just glad she wasn’t hurt any more than she was. It’s awful any time a man strikes a woman.”

The “Blade Runner” beauty, 54, has found “true love” with 69-year-old Neil, pals said.

The family friends are especially relieved to see her finally getting over the death of former flame John F. Kennedy, Jr.

As The ENQUIRER revealed last year, a heartbroken Daryl couldn’t stop pining for her lost love since his fatal plane crash in 1999.

“Daryl cried for months at the thought of what might have been,” a source had said.

The couple met in the early 1980s while both were vacationing in St. Martin.

The blonde beauty was devastated when John abruptly ended their romance in 1994.

This new relationship with Neil has been blooming ever since the rock star filed for divorce from Pegi Young, his wife of 36 years, on July 29 last year.

A little more than a month later, Daryl and Neil were seen holding hands at a restaurant in Westlake, Calif.

“Daryl loves Neil very much, and there’s even been talk about marriage,” the source told The ENQUIRER. “But the memories of that physical altercation with Jackson are still deeply troubling to her. Daryl will likely never get over it!”
