She’s planning a romantic wedding in Ireland, but the family of “Cougar Town” star COURTENEY COX is pleading for her to get hitched in her Alabama hometown – for the sake of her ailing mother!

Courteney Pritchard is too frail to travel for her daughter’s wedding, a family member revealed in an exclusive interview with The National ENQUIRER.

“It would be great if Courteney got married here in Birmingham,” said Courteney’s uncle James Cox from his home in Mountain Brook, Ala.

“Her mother is in a wheelchair or in her bed most of the time. It would be a strain on her to go anywhere else!”

Courteney has been planning to marry rocker Johnny McDaid this summer in his native Ireland – with a separate wedding celebration to be held in Los Angeles.

But the uncle of the “Friends” vet, 50, said Courteney’s mother has only gotten worse since being placed in an Alabama adult care facility 18 months ago.

James, 88, noted that Courteney and her older sisters, Virginia and Dottie, have made sure their mother is getting the best treatment possible.

“But Courteney’s mom is in bad shape. She isn’t too old – only 79 or 80 – but she’s been worsening for about eight or nine years,” James told The ENQUIRER.

Despite the location, James is still looking forward to attending with his wife, Ann.

He also gave his seal of approval to Johnny, and is excited the musician, 38, will be around to help divorced Courteney raise her daughter, Coco.

“Usually it’s good for young children to have a father and a mother,” James told The ENQUIRER.“I hope they will both be very happy together. I have no idea who’ll walk her down the aisle, though. Maybe I will!”

James also revealed that he supports Courteney’s reported interest in giving Coco a sibling!

“It would be great for Coco to have a brother or sister,” he mused. “Of course, it would be good for Courteney if she adopted.

“I guess she’s a little too old to have another child – but she’s a fine lady, and we hope for happiness for her and her career and her daughter.”
