Courageous ELIZABETH SMART returns to take the stand to testify against her accused abductor. WARNING! Her testimony is extremely harrowing and graphic.
The ENQUIRER recounted yesterday that Elizabeth swore under oath how she was kidnapped in the dead of night June 5, 2002, by the accused Brian David Mitchell.
He then forced her at knife-point to a mountain campsite near her Salt Lake City home, and consummated a hasty "marriage" ceremony, tied her up between two trees, raped her – promising to kill not only but her family if she tried escape from the homeless street preacher and his wife Wanda Eileen Barzee.
Despite the threats, Elizabeth said she initially decided to try and flee.
"No matter what it took, I would live," Smart testified. "I would survive and do everything he told me to do to keep my life and my family’s life intact."
She recalled she would attempt to minimize the "danger and threat" as much as she could and even mimicked the delusional self-proclaimed prophet’s beliefs that he was a messenger of God.
But the devout Mormon girl – who had never even dated a boy – had no idea of the horrors she was yet to endure.
"Then he proceeded to rape me," Elizabeth testified.
Smart also testified that she was forced by her captors to drink hard liquor and smoke. Smart said the booze thankfully dulled her senses.
"I didn’t want to be sober for what was coming."
Elizabeth said that she was forced to perform oral sex under fear of death. When Mitchell tried to kiss her, she bit his tongue. He told her he’d kill her if she ever attempted that again. It then got worse — a lot worse.
But brave Elizabeth returned to court today to continue her vivid testimony.
"He said to stay next to him at all times and if I tried to run away I would be killed," she said today.
"He said that I wasn’t to talk to anybody. I wasn’t to go anywhere without him. That I needed to stay next to him at all times. And I had some blue toenail polish that my younger sister and I had painted our toenails earlier with it.
"There wasn’t a lot but there were remnants left of that.
"He said I needed to get rid of it so there couldn’t be any sort of mark or sign that I was Elizabeth Smart."
The court later heard how Mitchell held Eilzabeth by attaching a cable around her ankles in his ramshackle camp and called her the Islamic name Shear-Jashub.
"It was out of the Book of Isaiah, the son of Isaiah was named Shear-Jashub – it meant the remnant will return," Smart said under oath.
"I asked the defendant if I had to be called that name and he said he would allow me choose a middle name that I could be called for a time. However, I could not be Elizabeth or Ann, and it had to be out of the Bible.
"I chose Esther."
Chillingly, Smart then revealed that each time before he raped her, Mitchell would tell her "I’m going to f*** your eyes out."
