Barbra Streisand is caught in a blockbuster book mystery!

As The National ENQUIRER has reported, her only child, Jason Gould, was being wooed to write a no-holds-barred tell-all about the superstar. Insiders predicted it could be another “Mommie Dearest.”

Barbra, 72, and Jason – who is openly gay and was diagnosed as HIVpositive in 2000 – were rumored to have had a strained relationship for years.

Sources say he had a front-row seat to her infamous diva antics and romances with A-list studs. Jason had already begun penning the explosive book, according to a published report. But now he’s telling a completely different story to The ENQUIRER!

“I’m not writing a book,” the 47-year-old director and singer insisted to an ENQUIRER reporter in Los Angeles.

A source added: “Barbra’s off the hook, but she’s now caught up in a mystery! “There’s no indication of what apparently convinced Jason not to go ahead with the project,” the source continued.

“But Barbra’s been a hands-on mom who has tried to control Jason’s life for years. “If he’d written the book, it could have blown the lid off Barbra’s darkest secrets – and been the ultimate revenge on his domineering mother.”

In July 2012, The ENQUIRER reported that a publishing industry source said Jason’s exposé on the “Funny Girl” star “could easily reap a $20 million advance.”

Jason, whose father is famed actor Elliott Gould, had plenty of material on his notoriously demanding mom, who has won two Oscars, five Emmys, eight Grammys and a Special Tony Award. Elliot and Barbra divorced in 1971 and she’s now married to actor James Brolin, who has three children from previous marriages.

A source told The ENQUIRER: “Jason grew up against the backdrop of his mother’s love affairs with marquee names like Don Johnson and Jon Peters.

“He also watched her iron-fisted grip and diva behavior with numerous actors and directors.” The first source added: “You could say that Jason not writing the book was a late Mother’s Day gift for Barbra. She owes him big-time.”
