AILING ROBIN ROBERTS LOSES MOTHER

ROBIN ROBERTS

“Good Morning America” co-host ROBIN ROBERTS has been dealt another crushing blow. Her mother, LUCIMARIAN ROBERTS, 88, in Gulfport, Miss., on Thursday night. Lucimarian’s death came on the same day Roberts took an early medical leave for a bone marrow transplant. Roberts has been fighting myelodysplastic syndrome(MDS).

“Robin arrived home with her sister, Sally-Ann, forging through flooded and blocked roads [due to Hurricane Issac] to be with her beloved mother in time to see her,” ABC’s Tom Cibrowski said in an email to the entire news division.

In a statement on her Facebook page, Robin Roberts wrote, “A CD of her favorite hymns is playing in her room. So thankful for my sister, Dorothy, and the nurses who have been caring for her. I will cherish these moments I have with mom. Then focus on what is ahead of me undergoing a bone marrow transplant.”

The newswoman added, “It’s rare to have MDS and mine was because of complications from the breast cancer treatment. I am very blessed. Forty percent of Americans can’t even take a sick day, and here I know that I’m going to have a job when I come back.”
