INSIDE STORY: HOW KATEY SEGAL convinced CHARLIE HUNNAM to ankle seamy S&M flick.

“SONS of Anarchy” stud Charlie Hunnam cited “scheduling conflicts” for dropping out of “Fifty Shades of Grey” – but The ENQUIRER has learned the real reason he turned down the lead role in the highly anticipated film.
Hollywood insiders say Hunnam wanted script approval, butted heads with the film’s creative team and struggled with the public hubbub surrounding the project.
BUT in the end, it was “Sons co-star Katey Sagal who convinced Hunnam to follow his gut and turn down the opportunity to play kinky entrepreneur Christian Grey, says a source.
“Katey knew Charlie was already regret¬ting taking the part and wasn’t comfortable with the attention it brought,” a source told The ENQUIRER.
“She told him the role would definitely make him a huge star, but the price he’d pay wouldn’t be worth it. Kat¬ey compared it to her playing Peggy Bundy on ‘Married…with Children,’ which nearly killed her career because she got typecast.
“Charlie really took Katey’s advice to heart.”
“Fifty Shades of Grey,” based on the raunchy best-selling E.L. James novel, will star Dakota Johnson – 24-year-old daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson – as college senior Anastasia Steele. With Hunnam out, producers have now chosen Former Calvin Klein hunk Jamie Dornan to play Grey, the wealthy older man who introduces Anastasia to a world of bondage sex.
“Charlie may be passing up the opportunity of a lifetime,” said the source, “but Katey convinced him that his integrity was more important.”
