U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently seized nearly 200 pounds of cocaine from a truck bound for Canada and arrested the driver, a Canadian citizen.

CBP Office of Field Operations officers working outbound operations near the Ambassador Bridge, which connects Detroit, Mich., to Windsor, Ontario, on April 20 encountered a commercial truck headed to Canada and selected it for examination. A search of the trailer revealed “several bricks” of white powder concealed within two duffel bags.

Subsequent testing revealed the powder was cocaine. In total, officers seized 193 pounds of cocaine carrying an estimated value of more than $2.5 million.

“This is yet another recent example of the commitment our officers have to protecting the American people from the scourge of dangerous drugs,” Port Director Marc Calixte said in a statement. “Its amazing enforcement work by all involved.”

CBP seized the cocaine, truck and trailer, and the driver, a Canadian citizen, faces federal prosecution. The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations.

“Safe and secure international commerce is essential to protecting the homeland,” said Director of Field Operations Marty C. Raybon. “Rest assured that well continue to leverage all available resources to disrupt the transnational drug trade and those seeking to exploit our Michigan ports of entry.”
