Australian authorities say their “Paw Patrol” recently caught a motorbike rider with a furry friend unsafely strapped to their chest while on the road.

The Queensland Police Service said officers from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol were patrolling on Alexandra Parade in Alexandra Headland at around 2 p.m. on May 17 when they stopped a 35-year-old Maroochydore woman on a motorbike for an unusual infraction.

A video shared by the police shows the woman had her dog strapped to her chest, sitting between her and the handlebars.

“We know how attached some people are to their pets, but its best to apply a paws-off approach when it comes to our roads,” said Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol.

“The rider had purchased the harness online and did not think through the safety implications, particularly if the dog was to react to other road users, pedestrians or animals,” Panoho said. “This could place the rider and her pooch in harms way or put other motorists at risk.”

Panoho said drivers are required to have control of their vehicle and a clear view of the road at all times.

The woman was issued an AUD $376 (USD $243) traffic infringement notice for riding with an animal between her arms.

“Although the dog seemed to be comfortable on the bike, we urge riders to practice safe and responsible behavior on our roads,” Panoho said.
