Authorities say 250 million bees are swarming in northern Washington state after a semi-truck carrying their hives crashed and rolled over on Friday.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office said the area of Weidkamp Road between West Badger Road and Loomis Trail Road, near Lynden, was closed following the rollover crash at around 8:40 a.m. Friday. The area is in Whatcom County, near the Canadian border.

Authorities warned people to avoid the area, as the commercial truck was carrying a huge load of pollinating bees.

In a social media update at around 9 a.m., the sheriff’s office confirmed some 250 million bees escaped and were swarming the area. Along with deputies, Whatcom County Public Works, and a bee expert responded to the scene.
