mother — 33-year-old
Shannell Monique Mosley
— who left her six
children at home with no food
or money while she flew off to
Africa to marry a man she'd met
on the Internet, say authorities.
"How any mother
could do such a thing
is beyond belief,"
outraged prosecutor
John Jordan told The
ENQUIRER.
Mosley is now
sitting in a Houston,
Texas, jail for leaving
her kids — ages 1, 7, 8,
9, 15 and 16 — to fend
for themselves after
jetting to Nigeria to
get married.
"I've been doing this kind of
work for 18 years, and I've
never had a case as shocking as
this," Estella Olguin, spokesperson
for the Harris County Child
Protective Services in Houston,
told The ENQUIRER. "A lot of
people are saying she's got to be
America's worst mother."
The case came to light when the
15-year-old crashed the family's
van on Dec. 31, the day her mom
left.
When deputies went to Mosley's
home on Jan. 2, they discovered a
shocking scene: The six children,
plus two others — a 3-year-old
and a 4-year-old whom Mosley
was supposed to be baby-sitting
— were hungry and
dirty.
The house was
littered with trash,
and dirty dishes
were piled high.
There was no food
in the home, nor
were there diapers
or milk for the baby.
Officials located
Mosley and told her
the children had
been taken into foster
homes, but she
refused to come home for three
more weeks because she said she
was on her honeymoon, added
Jordan.
When Mosley finally flew back
to Houston on Jan. 28, she was
arrested. She is facing charges
of child abandonment and child
endangerment, and could serve
up to 10 years in jail.
