WILL SMITH'S REAL LIFE RESCUE

Out jogging in Venice, Calif., WILL SMITH encountered a sad scene - three little boys screaming and crying for help as their cocker spaniel puppy struggled to escape from a clump of weeds that had him trapped in a deep canal.

One lad was already wading in as the "I Am Legend" star came running up and told him to get back on shore. The boys told Will: "He jumped in to fetch a stick, and now he can't get out of those weeds!"

 The exhausted pooch was starting to go under when Will waded in, yanked him out of the weeds and brought him back to shore.

The grateful youngsters started hugging Will and thanking him as he warned: "Next time you play fetch, play it on the grass."
