WHITE HOUSE DEBT CRISIS TWITTER “JOKE”

With the country in crisis the White House memes a Twitter joke and “RickRolls” users a link to “something more fun.”

Brian Deese, deputy director of the National Economic Council, was fielding Twitter user queries about the debt ceilings via the official White House Twitter feed – followed by 2.3 million users.

After an earnest discussion about the financial crisis, a Twit voiced concern over the tone of the tweets from the White House.

"This WHO correspondence briefing isn't nearly as entertaining as yesterday's. #SCOT #WHchat" wrote user David Wiggs who used e popular hashtags to make sure his 140 character missive was read by the WH gatekeepers.

That prompted the White House's reply to do "something more fun".

The White House repsonse link jumped to a YouTube video of UK pop singer Rick Astley's 1987 number one “Never Gonna Give You Up”.

The practice of "Rickrolling" — duping web users into clicking a link to that song — has led to almost 36.5 million people watching the obscure music video turned internet sensation since 2008.

The BBC reports Astley is amused by the use of his song by the White House as an internet meme, a web joke, but refused to comment on the matter.
