MONROE’S FINAL VOYAGE

description

Fan Fave Del Monroe, 73, who played Kowalski on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea gone.

Monroe who was clobbered by commies, aliens and sea monsters defending the atomic submarine USS Seaview on the 1960s classic TV series took his final voyage June 5.  A recent illness had sadly developed into leukemia.

Monroe starred alongside Richard Basehart as Admiral Nelson and David Hedison as Captain Lee Crane in sci-fi series produced by Irwin Allen (The Towering Inferno) and was one of the few actors to recreate his role after appearing in the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea film (1961).

Del was a familiar face on the TV landscape guesting on Lost In Space, Ironside, and Wonder Woman among countless others. His last appearance was Medium in 2005.

In an interview Del said that when he was in the military during the 1950s he was ordered to hunker down in a trench within three miles of a nuclear blast. He reported he could see "the light of the flash through his arm" which he was holding over his eyes.

In 2004, surviving Voyage cast members reunited for a convention and the sheer number of fans was so overwhelming Del was left speechless from the attention a seeming forgotten 40 year old series received.

So long ‘Ski.
