A Missouri teen who told law enforcement that she wanted to know what it felt like to kill ,pleaded guilty to charges of murder, after telling the judge that she strangled her 9-year-old neighbor with her bare hands and then slashed her throat with a knife.
Alyssa Bustamate pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Oct. 21, 2009, killing of Elizabeth Olten in a rural town west of Jefferson City, Mo..
At today’s hearing, Bustamante was asked by the judge if she undrestood the amended charges and then asked her if she understood she was giving up her right to a trial.
She replied, “Yes.” Bustamante was then asked to describe exactly what she had done. “I strangled her and stabbed her in the chest.” Bustamante said, staring straight at the judge.
“Did you cut her throat too?” the judge asked. “Yes” Bustamante responded.
Bustamante, who turns 18 Jan. 28, told the judge that she knew exactly what she was doing at the time. Bustamante admitted using a knife to cut Elizabeth’s throat.
She then strangled the girl with her hands.
The chilling confession prompted a sharp, audible intake of breath from the slain child’s tearful mother who sat a few feet away in the courthouse.
Bustamante, who was 15-years-old at the time of the vicious attack, was initially charged with first-degree murder.
