Texas cops busting two crooks at Home Depot discovered a seriously sick puppy in the criminal’s truck. While his owners were inside allegedly trying to get away with switching price tags on merchandise, a Chihuahua police have nicknamed “Lucky” found the bungling drug abusers’ heroin stash and consumed an undisclosed volume of the potentially lethal opiate.

Upon being taken into custody the suspects asked the police to see to their dog, which they’d left in their vehicle. A spokesperson for the Carrollton, Texas police department said that when the officers reached the dog, “He was extraordinarily lethargic, almost comatose, barely breathing, his heart rate was very, very slow, his body temperature was really low.” Emergency veterinarians were able to resuscitate the 4-month old pup.

While local officials expect Lucky to fully recover and be adopted out to a new home, his owners – Thomas Romero and Nina Crawford – were arrested for heroin possession and fraud, and will likely face charges related to Lucky’s endangerment as well.
