Law enforcement say a last minute informant has emerged in their case against the suspect charged in the disappearance of Etan Patz.

Patz disappeared seemingly without a trace May 25 1979.

A New York prosecutor told media an informant would testify at the murder trial of Pedro Hernandez, AP reported.

Jury selection is underway in the bombshell trial.

Neither prosecutors nor defense lawyers will discuss what information the person has nor how he/ she knows the defendant.

The identity of the informant has been sealed by court order.

The day of his disappearance the six-year old Patz left home with a dollar, telling his parents he planned to buy a soda to drink with his lunch.

Hernandez was then an 18-year-old worker in a neighborhood bodega at the time of Patz's disappearance.

Reportedly, he killed the child with a knife and threw the corpse away in the trash.

Despite an intensive search for years, the remains have never been recovered.

The prosecutor’s case rests on alleged statements made to authorities and statements allegedly told pals nearly 4 decades ago.

The defense contends his so-called confessions were false. Hernandez is charged with 2nd degree murder.

Hernandez has been incarcerated since his May 2012 arrest.
