A man traveled thousands of miles to the United States only to bail out before his final destination!

Tun Lon Sein is facing federal charges after jumping out of American Airlines flight 5242 from Charlotte to New Bern, N.C. and onto the tarmac at Charlotte Douglas Airport.

Sein, who hails from Myanmar in southeast Asia, flew from Thailand to Hong Kong, continuing into Newark International Airport in New Jersey.

He arrived in Charlotte en route to New Bern but left his seat, and tried to open the main door of the aircraft!

The flight attendant and two other passengers attempted to get Sein to return to his seat so the flight could depart on schedule.

Sein then attempted to bite the flight attendant’s hand before opening the galley service door and exiting the plane by jumping onto the tarmac!

Sein was prevented from running onto the taxiway by two airport staff members.

He was escorted back to the terminal gate and taken to Carolinas Medical Center for observation.

Sein appeared in federal court where he spoke little to no English, as an interpreter who could translate his native dialect could not be located in time for the hearing.

He will remain in jail until the courts can bring in a proper translator, which could take a week.

Sein’s immigration to the United States was sponsored by The Episcpal Migration Ministry, who are cooperating with the State Department and local law enforcement.
