While convicted killer JODI ARIAS Arias fights to avoid the death penalty for butchering her ex-boyfriend, she’s snagged a new man from her jail cell, The ENQUIRER has learned.
“He’s become her lifeline,” a close friend of Arias tells The NATIONAL ENQUIRER exclusively.
“Jodi told me, ‘He has helped me stay sane. Writing and talking to him gets me through the days.’”
Arias was found guilty in 2013 of stabbing Travis Alexander 29 times before slitting his throat from ear to ear and then shooting him in the head.
The 34-year-old murderess now receives an astonishing 80 postcards a month from admirers – one of whom is her new boyfriend.
The lovestruck suitor lives near the Estrella Jail in Phoenix where Arias is incarcerated.
After months of writing to each other, they began chatting during regular phone calls, according to the source. While they’ve met face to face, the facility does not allow conjugal visits.
“Jodi only gets one visitor for 30 minutes a week, so they don’t get to see each other often,” revealed the close friend.
Arias is now awaiting word from a new jury on whether she will be put to death, and her new beau offers her needed emotional support.
“He keeps telling Jodi that it only takes one juror to save her life,” said the friend.
The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively that during her upcoming sentencing hearing, Arias plans to introduce new evidence that “she was abused by Alexander,” and will explain why she killed him.
But while Arias insists that she was a victim, her new beau has other reasons to beware. As The ENQUIRER recently reported, her best friend, Chris Hughes, blasted Arias as “a nar cissistic sociopath.”We have also tracked down another ex-boyfriend, Ryan Burns, who told us: “Ten hours after Jodi killed Travis, she drove straight to see me.
“She called me along the way, laughing and giggling about getting lost.
“She could have won an Academy Award for the way she acted. It makes me sick now.”
