In one of the most nauseating acts of animal cruelty on record, a man killed his ex-girlfriend’s cherished dog and served it to her for dinner.

The depraved dog killer, Ryan Eddy Watenpaugh, 34, of Palo Cedro, Calif., was arrested and charged with animal cruelty in a long line of vicious abuses against the woman.

This is beyond disturbing,” Adam Parascandola, director of Animal Cruelty Response for The Humane Society, told The National ENQUIRER.

“We’ve seen cases of people harming animals to get at their spouses, but to take it to this level is frightening.”

Watenpaugh kidnapped “Bear,” a Pomeranian, from his girlfriend, who told the Redding Police Department he had physically assaulted her numerous times during their stormy relationship.

After an Aug. 4 argument ended with Watenpaugh allegedly assaulting the woman, she fled. When she finally returned, both man and dog were missing.

“Watenpaugh reached out and offered to cook her a meal,” Shasta County Deputy District Attorney Brandon Storment told The ENQUIRER.

At that point, he brought over a home-cooked “pork” dinner and the couple tried to reconcile their differences.

The next day, police say the woman received several sick texts from Watenpaugh asking her “how Bear tasted,” according to Redding Police Sgt. Todd Cogle.

Days later, Watenpaugh deposited a bag outside her door. When she investigated, to her horror, the bag contained Bear’s tiny severed paws.

“These actions suggest he was a danger to more than animals,” Parascandola told The ENQUIRER.

When police searched Watenpaugh’s home they found an unlicensed AK-47 assault rifle and ammo.

Arrested on further charges of domestic violence, assault, stalking and possession of illegal deadly weapons, Watenpaugh faces up to 12 years behind bars.

“If he’s guilty, he needs to go to jail, obviously,” said Deputy D.A. Storment. “(This) sends a message that this kind of assault against an innocent animal will NOT be tolerated.”
